Embers burn in my soul, deprived of oxygen. I am gasping for air, trying to find my way out of the dark. Everything I have ever known is a twisted version of reality, but it’s my mates who help unravel the truth. When bonds are severed and my world goes up in flames, will I survive as the Queen of Ash and Magic, or will I be another casualty of war?

I think that this is my favourite Emily Klepp book thus far. I really loved reading it, it had a good pace, and I simply couldn’t put it down. Sure, it is Dark Romance and you definitely got to read the triggers. But I loved it!

I think death by dragon dick is a wonderful way to go

This book took me completely by surprise, but Emily’s books tend to do that with me. The Queen of Ash & Magic was a fast-paced fantasy dark romance that had me in its grip from the very first page. We don’t get eased into the story. Oh no, instead it gets smacked right into our faced from the very first chapter. And I absolutely love this book for that!

Emily Klepp has a very easy writing style, that is very fast paced. It just worked absolutely perfectly for me. The book moves smoothly, though at some points it is a little disjointed. Sometimes a piece of lore comes out of nowhere, and I would have liked to get a little bit more foreshadowing. I can’t help it, I am simply a sucker for some good foreshadowing! You definitely get some pretty nice plot twists. Maybe the lack of foreshadowing makes it even more of a surprise when it happens? I guess you could call that a double edged sword.

The characters were nicely balanced out with the plot line. The book only has 214 pages, so it is relatively limited. Not a novella, but it didn’t feel as a full length book for me either. I think to actually feel like a full length it should have had just a little bit more depth. But for the story that we got, with the amount of pages that we got, this was really nicely balanced. For every piece of character development we also got a piece of plot, and I actually kind of loved that!

Lysa has a very troubled past, and because of that I recommend everyone to check your triggers before taking a go at this book. It doesn’t shy away from the darker topics, and it also doesn’t beat around the bush when describing what is happening. I know this is not everyone’s cup of tea, so it is important to consider this before picking up The Queen of Ash & Magic.

I am going to be honest, I was a little nervous when Emily was doing a fantasy book. But she did it really well and I hope with my whole heart that she is going to write this genre more often. The world that Emily creates is one that definitely caught my interest. I wouldn’t mind a few more books set in this world, simply because of the world-building.

Good bits

Bad bits

  • Spicy Fantasy Dark Romance
  • Dragon peen
  • Two Fated Mates
  • A really nice world-building
  • Fast paced and easy to read writing style
  • A little disjointed at times

This book was such a fun read and I am looking forward to any future reads by Emily! It was just so much fun. The Queen Of Ash & Magic is an absolute wild ride. The story is intense, hot and spicy. If this sounds like your cup of tea, definitely try it out!
