What do you get when a Mafia boss hates Christmas? Nick…Nick is what you get.
Nick, with his Bah Humbug attitude, wants to be away from everyone and everything at Christmas, especially family. With dreams of solitude dancing in his head, he rents a house where no one knows him,
His peace is disturbed when Jasmine, a beautiful woman with a bruised face, two young children, and a baby bump, moves in next door.
Can Jasmine and her little family do what no one else can—thaw his cold, joyless heart?
After reading all the other books in the Valentine series by Rosie Sloane, I definitely wanted to read the Christmas special as well! I was excited when I started, and couldn’t put it down until I had read all of the 72 pages!
If I had a soul, I swear you’d just sucked it out of me
By now, I am pretty sure that people who read my reviews often know that I have a huge weak spot for Rosie’s writing style. It’s fast paced and easy to read, exactly how I liked it.
Besides that, I also have a weak spot for this particular series. After the ending of book three, I was already incredible curious about the stories surrounding the other characters. Now that the story of Treasa and Valentine was finished, I was more than ready to delve into the next book about this family. The ending had left multiple red hearings open, and I was eager to follow them and see where they lead.
Did I expect the next book to be about one of the ‘bad guys’?
Absolutely not.
But gods, was I living for it!
The Christmas special is about Nicklas, who got quite a little plot twists that left my brain reeling. I won’t go into too much detail, for that you really need to read the series yourself. But he has propelled himself from my least favourite character of these book series to one of my favourites. This was incredibly well done and came completely out of nowhere.
More of this, please!
I expected the next book to be about Bunny, seeing as book 3 ended with her Point Of View. So it being about Nick was a very pleasant surprise. What also was so much fun to read was the Female Main Character. She was a mother, and this is not something I encounter often in my smutty romances. Incredibly refreshing to read about!
That being said, Rosie had been improving since her last book. It felt less disjointed, though it was still suffering from it here and there. I can see how the author is improving, though. And that is very pleasant to watch. I love it when you notice authors taking the feedback to heart. I think Rosie can still improve a lot, but the potentional is there!
For the first time in my life, the holiday season doesn't feel bad at all
Seeing a writer improve bit by bit is incredibly satisfying and if you’ve been following Rosie as I am, then you probably noticed this as well. It makes me excited for the next book. A little birdy has already dropped a few hints. And let me just say, I can’t wait!
Good bits
Bad bits
- Surprising FMM
- Rosie’s writing is improving
- Nicely paced and easy writing style
- Plenty of spice
- Comfortable length for a Christmas novella
- Still a little disjointed, but less so than the former three books!
All with all, another very enjoyable book by Rosie Sloane. I love her writing style, and seeing her improve is a delight. If you’ve been enjoying the Valentine series, just like me, this is a must-read!
