I’ve been captured by The Ogre. A hungry beast who eats everything he takes, and who lives off flesh and fear. But when he gets his hands on me, he decides he doesn’t want to eat me like the others.

It’s been years since I visited the town I grew up in.
So it’s just my luck that on my first night back I’m hassled by some jerk in a bar and have to make a run for it.

When we were kids we were always told to stay away from the woods. That if we went inside, then we would never return. Now I’m running directly into them, away from one monster, but straight into the arms of another. And once he’s done, he might just keep me as his pet.

This Ogre wants to punish me for coming into his forest.

We all knew never to go into the woods at night…

I have a weakness for monster romance, and this definitely was not an exception. I read it in a few hours, opening it and not closing it until I was at the end. It was a fun, hot and quick read. If you have a size kink, this is the book for you!

Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum… Make me quiver with that tongue…

This definitely is not the best novella out there, lacking a bit in continuity and storyline. While there is a plot, it sometimes feels like it loses its direction. That being said, I didn’t really expect a plot at all, so that was a surprise. I went in with the idea I would be reading a full-blown erotic story about an ogre and a human. I did get that, oh absolutely. But there was just a sprinkle of plot that brought this book from two stars to three stars for me.

If I am being quite honest, I picked this book because I wanted a quick smutty read. With only 105 pages, it definitely was quick. The book is weird in a good way, at least for me. But as I said before, I have a weakness for monster romance. Though, you couldn’t exactly call this romance. Monster Erotica is probably a better word for it. There is very little romance, though there are one or two cute moments.

There were some funny moments, that made me laugh out loud. Some of the lines were so cheesy that they tickled my funny-bone. It definitely added a certain bit of lightness to this book that it needed.

Kassandra Cross has a quick-paced writing style, using very simple words that make for an easy read. There isn’t much depth, but it didn’t need that. You get exactly what you’re expecting; A monster romance with an Ogre and a human. Size kink definitely goes brrr.

The ending was something I was surprisingly fond of. Now, this might be a bit of a spoiler so if you don’t want that feel free to skip over this paragraph. But what I really liked is that the monster actually stayed a monster. In lots of monster romances they get a little bit too emphatic, a little bit too human. The fact that this big bad ogre kept doing exactly what he was doing before really sold it on three stars for me. He simply kept eating humans, keeping the monster actually monstrous. Yes please, more of that!

All in all, not a literary masterpiece but a quick fun read. It’s weird, it’s quirky and it’s smutty as hell. Even though it wasn’t particularly good, I couldn’t stop reading until the very last page!

Good bits

Bad bits

  • The monster actually stays monstrous
  • Short quick-paces read
  • Some plot with my smut
  • You get exactly what you expect
  • Loses its path from time to time, becoming a little bit confusing
  • If size difference or monster fucking is not your thing, then this definitely is not the read for you. It’s very trope specific.

The Ogre’s Pet is exactly what you expect it to be: A Monster Erotica. The size kink definitely was emphasized, something I really liked. This is one of those books that you either like or hate, because it really has to be your thing. If you’re a fan of monster fuckery and size differences, you could definitely give this a try.
